What is the best food for my kitten with diarrhea?
Q. My 16-week old kitten has been checked for worms 3 times within 2 weeks and all tests have been negative. She was on flagyl and probiotic and is done with that. Her food consisted of Merrick wet food and Wellness Dry food. I keep a water fountain clean and full at all times. She does not eat table scraps or get milk. She is not dehydrated and is gaining weight at a healthy pace. The only symptom is very loose stool or diarrhea. And until today, she was only pooping two or three times a day. Today she pooped twice between 6:30 and 7:00 am. Assuming it is her diet, which seems the most logical at this point, what are your thoughts on foods that claim to be nutritionally balanced for all life stages? What are your suggestions for brands of… [cont.]

A. youre feeding her good brands! Good job!. maybe stay away from the wet food. And get her a kitten dry. Innova is good or natura pet (same thing) Im not sure they have a kitten food. You can go to their website and find a store in your area that carries their brand. And if that pet store carries this brand, then they typically only deal with the best food products and they might also have some suggestions for you. I checked the website they have evo kitten dry which is good, but youre using a great food although Im not fan of wellness because i found a piece of plastic embedded in my dogs wellness ddry, i stopped buying them and went to innova evo Science diet was on the bad food list, Innova was not. That guy is WRONG

What food should I use for urinary problems for a male cat?
Q. My cat Lionel is ten years old and still active. However he has had reoccurring urinary tract problems. I recently took him to the vet and they gave me a cat food (Prescription Diet C/D) which Lionel is supposed to eat for the rest of his life. (It has low magnesium). My problem is that the food is very expensive and I have to go to the vet everytime to get it. Is there another kind of dry cat food that is available? I heard that Nutro is a good brand. Also, I would like suggestions on any alternatives beside the dry food. I can ask my vet these questions but I would like to have a 2nd (and 3rd, 4th etc) opinions from Yahoo answers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

A. Welcome to the world of urinary problems in cats. My cat just had a stone the size of a nickel removed so I know what you are going through...I hope. Anyway my doctor also gave me c/d for him but she also said that since it is sooo expensive that I could give him purina urinary tract health for it and that would be ok. I hope this answers your question but I do know that for sure. As for other kinds I hope to read your answer and see what you are going to do.

Does storing food in pots and pans in the refrigerator poison the food?
Q. My mom used to always tell me to put left overs in a tupperware and place in the fridge. She said the if you put the pot or pan in the fridge to store the left overs, it would poison the food. My boyfriend does this all the time and I've always refused to eat the food. Well, now I'm sick and he made some chicken soup. He put the soup in the fridge, in the pot and gave me some for work today. I'm scared to eat it because of what Mom used to always say but I can't seem to find anything on the net about it. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true that refrigerated food in pots poisons you? My mom used to always tell me to put left overs in a tupperware and place in the fridge. A. No that does not make you sick. I do that all the time. Its best to not store in the pan longer than 24 hours but if he did the soup last night you aren't sick from the way it was stored. I think the warning came about because pans were made of coarse metals and iron pots and that can leech into food. Most pots now are stainless steel.

What kind of pet food is healthier to feed your cat, dry food or canned food?
Q. We have been feeding our new cat canned food because that is what the shelter said she preffered. However, we just got back from the vet and learned she has gingivitis. I have also heard that most canned food is essentially the same thing as giving your pets junk food or candy. What's the answer?
Asked by Troy - Fri Aug 31 00:20:52 2007 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Actually feeding both is best. The vet I worked at fed a little canned food and free fed dry through out the day... Canned food is not like candy. It is high in meat content and is good for them, but they need the dry to clean their teeth. Hope that helps!

What food to sell at a high school's fundraising event?
Q. We're considering chocolate-covered frozen bananas, but aren't sure if they'll sell. Many of the less-exotic foods have already been claimed by other clubs (soda, donuts, burritos, burgers, caramel apples, apple cider, garlic/foccacia bread, fried chicken, fish balls, smoothies, pizza, sushi, tapioca). We are also not allowed to sell food cooked by ourselves. What other food items are likely to sell well? By the way, I live in northern California, so the weather is always pretty mild. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

How do I get my cat to eat wet cat food instead of dry cat food?
Q. I have heard that dry cat food is bad for your cats health. My cat loves dry cat food and only eats a small amount of the wet cat food. I used to give her dry food in the mornings but now I have started to give her wet cat food as that would be the time when she is the most hungry. This morning she woke me up meowing becuase she was hungry and I fed her one of those small tins of cat food and she only ate half. An hour later she still didn't finish it. I gave her a small pile of dry cat food and she ran straight over and ate it. I don't think it is enough food for her to be eating only one small tin of cat food a day (half in the morning, half at night). She is already small and although her weight is okay, she really doesn't need to… [cont.]

A. Good for you! You're doing the right thing. I went through this myself, and it took me two weeks. First, be prepared to waste a bit of money. And to be patient. Buy several different brands of food, and get different varieties of each. Offer a bit of that, and if your cat responds to any, make note of the brand and flavor. It may be that he'll like venison or turkey, or perhaps he'll like any flavor from a certain manufacturer. You are right to switch gradually. I think you could continue what you're doing - offer the dry food once per day - give him 1/2 to 3/4 of what he would usually get. You could even break that into two meals although I don't think that really matters. By reducing the amount of food, your cat still is… [cont.]

How much food should we feed our 3 month old kitten?
Q. She is only 3 months old, but she always meows for food. The bag of food says to give her 1/3 cup but is that per day or per feeding time? We would like to feed her twice a day, but we don't know how much to feed her and she is already starting to get a little chubby. She also tries to eat the dog food when she has none. Also, is Neutro a good brand? Thank you for your help!

A. The recommended serving is the total amount to feed a cat per day. Since she is still a baby, break that 1/3 cup into a couple of smaller meals a day. Don't give her 1/3 cup each serving. You'll wind up with a chunky cat.

And do you realize that, by donating food, you are taking money from poor farmers and food stall sellers who are desperately trying to make a living in Africa? It's too expensive to gather and transport food from individual donors outside of a country -- it's much more cost-effective and beneficial to the community to buy the food *in the country* and distribute it to those in need. It's even MORE beneficial to pay for experts to train food growers there to grow more and better food. Some organizations, like CARE international, are even refusing large food donations from governments, because of how much it hurts the local economies, and is asking governments to, instead,… [cont.]

What cat food is best for a cat that vomits everything she eats?
Q. We adopted a cat that was a stray. I bought her some cheap dry cat food. After a week she started throwing it up and won't eat it any more. She will eat soft cat food but is still throwing up. What should I feed her? I tried mixing rice in her soft food but that didn't work.

A. If your kitty has a sensitive stomach your may want to try a presciption cat food, IE Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Or...we had this same problem with our pet, and the only food he could keep down was meat baby food (Gerbers chicken, turkey, veal) mixed with rice cereal baby food. We ended up feeding him this 10 years. But definately, have the vet check out your kitten. Hope things go better!

Where do you get your rabbit food from?
Q. My last two rabbits died when I got my food from petsmart. The food was tested positive for mycotoxin poisoning which is a type of mold and both of my bunnies bled to deah. I'm getting a new rabbit tommorrow and need to know what type of food to get so that this doesn't happen again. I was thinking that I should get manopro which is a type of food from tractor supply. I was planning on getting a 25 lbs bag but if any one knows any quality rabbit food then that would be helpful. Thanx!

A. I would highly recommend Blue Seal Show Hutch Delux, but it only comes in 50 lbs. If where you live doesn't sell Blue Seal, you can always try to find Bunny-16 near your local pet store or online. That's just my opinion. I used to feed my bunny both Bunny-16 and Blue Seal and when I took it to the vet, he'd always say he was a healthy bunny and it made me proud. My bunny died, though...

What human food treats do you feed your cat?
Q. I make wet cat food and stick to foods I know are fine for cats. Like Human Grade Turkey Liver, Chicken Liver, Chicken Thighs and Boneless Salmon, Peas and Carrots. What other foods would you suggest to put in there? I tried Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash and it worked as well:) I do feed dry food, they get homemade wet food because of the bad preservatives and fillers like corn and wheat.

A. My cat loves to eat lots of human food if you can spare them some chicken not raw or maybe some roast lamb, but if you don't have that they love Tuna or my cats favourite ham and luncheon Hope this helps cheers

What tax category are food purchases for food sales rep?
Q. My husband is a food sales rep employee in which he also gives consultations/suggestions for restaurants. As a result, he eats at many of his customers' restaurants to try their food or at potential customers' restaurants. This should be tax deductible because it's for his job in which he is trying their food and/or trying to promote business. However, I don't think this would fall into the meal category which is only 50% deductible. Anyone know what category this would fall into?

A. If he's eating at their restaurants with an eye towards promoting their restaurant, THEY should be paying for the meals. Meals taken in the vicinity of your tax home are not deductible. A food critic might have an argument but your hubby does not.

A. Do you mean a food processor? When I think of a food chopper I think of those cheap plastic little gadgets- like the Slap Chop (no offense). If you re talking about a food processor, then Kitchen Aid is the way to go... Less expensive then Cusineart and just as sturdy.
