Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) are a class of compounds typically used as antidepressants in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and some personality disorders. They are also typically effective and used in treating premature ejaculation problems as well as some cases of insomnia. SSRIs are believed to increase the extracellular level of the neurotransmitter serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake into the presynaptic cell, increasing the level of serotonin available to bind to the postsynaptic receptor. They have varying degrees of selectivity for the other monoamine transporters, with pure SSRIs having only weak affinity for the noradrenaline and dopamine transporter. The first class of psychotropic drugs to be rationally designed, SSRIs are the most widely prescribed antidepressants in many countries. A 2010 meta-analysis indicated that:

Q. Okay, so I'm on 100mg prescribed SSRI (zoloft), and I want to take beans and actually feel the effects. I know that just one doesn't work, because I've tried that before and didn't feel a thing. So, my questions is, how many beans should I take to roll? Two? Give me your input, wise ones. And if you're just going to post with "drugs r bad", you can gtfo, I'm not here for that nonsense. Asked by Olivia - Thu Nov 5 17:21:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments A. No amount.. you can't roll while zoloft is in your system, sorry. You need to stop taking the zoloft (which I don't recommend, mind you) for, I'd say, 1.5 - 2 weeks before you try it. The SSRI's stop your serotonin from increasing, which is what makes you feel good when you roll. It keeps your serotonin at a constant amount, so now matter how much ecstasy you throw at it, it will only let a steady amount of serotonin in. So sorry, but it's one or the other. Maybe ask your doctor for a non-SSRI medication (be sure to have a reason), and 2 weeks later, you'll be set. Have fun, be safe. Which made you feel the best? Asked by Marx - Mon Nov 20 23:36:14 2006 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. They are both anti-depressants geared for different reasons. Paxil is more for social anxiety; people who consider themselves to be socially awkward are generally given paxil. Zoloft is more the general anti-depressant, with less specialized reasons for taking it. It is a hot topic right now. Before you do anything, get help! Psychiatrist can do wonders.
