There is no single, precise definition, as there are different meanings in drug control law, government regulations, medicine, and colloquial usage. In pharmacology, a drug is "a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, or diagnosis of disease or used to otherwise enhance physical or mental well-being." Drugs may be prescribed for a limited duration, or on a regular basis for chronic disorders. Recreational drugs are chemical substances that affect the central nervous system, such as opioids or hallucinogens. They may be used for perceived beneficial effects on perception, consciousness, personality, and behavior. Some drugs can cause addiction and habituation. Drugs are usually distinguished from endogenous biochemicals by being introduced from outside the organism. For example, insulin is a hormone that is synthesized in the body; it is called a hormone when it is synthesized by the pancreas inside the body, but if it is introduced into the body from outside, it is called a drug. Many natural substances such as beers, wines, and some mushrooms, blur the line between food and drugs, as when ingested they affect the functioning of both mind and body. From Wikipedia under the

The method of consumption has nothing to do with whether or not it can be found by a test. What matters is if they decide to test for it or not, so they usually leave the less common drugs out. Such as DMT, kratom, salvia divinorum, LSD, etc... Also some kinds of tests are more accurate for looking for certain drugs. Saliva tests are best suited for (regardless of method of consumption): Marijuana - 1 to 24 hours after consumption Cocaine - 0 to 72 hours after consumption Opiates - 0 to 72 hours after consumption Methamphetamine - 0 to 96 hours after consumption MDMA (Ecstasy) - 0 to 96 hours after consumption Benzodiazepines - 0 to 72 hours after consumption Amphetamines - unknown Phencyclidine - unknown Heroin, morphine, codeine,… [cont.] Answered by psychedelic_13 - Fri Jan 1 12:25:21 2010 Can police officers use drugs while performing a drug investigation?

No, they can not under normal circumstances. Your state may have an exception under a legal principle called "necessity". This allows you to do something illegal, to prevent something worse from happening. If someone's life was at stake, the drug use would not be prosecuted. Here is Wisconsin's law on necessity: 939.47 Necessity. Pressure of natural physical forces which causes the actor reasonably to believe that his or her act is the only means of preventing imminent public disaster, or imminent death or great bodily harm to the actor or another and which causes him or her so to act, is a defense to a prosecution for any crime based on that act. Most big time drug dealers do not use, so it is not that uncommon to refuse. The… [cont.] Answered by trooper3316 - Mon Jan 28 21:15:51 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "drugs" ContentsSourcedCocaine
